Learn how to make an apple crisp macchiato at home with not one but two recipes!! These recipes will remind you of a warm apple pie on a cool fall day! This is the ultimate fall drink!
Why I Love Apple Crisp Macchiato and have 2 recipes
When most people think of fall they think of pumpkin spice latte but not me. When I think of my favorite fall drink I think of an Apple Crisp Macchiato. Love is not a strong enough word to describe how I feel about a Starbucks Apple Crisp Oatmilk Macchiato. I’m that person who stalks Starbucks well after the season to get the last of their apple syrup in my coffee cup. Then summer comes and I have nothing. That is until now. Luckily, I have come up with 2 different recipes to soothe my fall season apple-loving heart. There is no espresso maker needed!
The first homemade version, I refer to as the Quick and Dirty Oatmilk Apple Crisp Macchiato. It is quick, simple, tasty, and gets the job done in a pinch. It is my lazy day go to coffee drink.
The second recipe is a homemade syrup that has no extra additives. It only contains whole food simple ingredients that you can trust. While I would not consider it healthy food by any means because it does have sugar. The biggest benefit of this apple crisp macchiato is that it does not contain all the extra nasty preservatives that you would find in a commercial creamer or coffee syrup.
Key Ingredients For The Perfect Apple Crisp Macchiato
If you want to know how to make the best apple crisp macchiato you need a few key ingredients. The two big game changers to creating a tasty apple crisp macchiato are
- Espresso Style Coffee
- Oat Milk
Let me explain why you need these 2 ingredients in your apple crisp macchiato.
A traditional macchiato drink has only a splash of milk on top of shots of espresso. In contrast, a Starbucks Macchiato is mostly milk. Normally they pour in a shot of rich-tasting espresso and the rest of the cup is filled with milk. Do not worry, this does not mean that you need an espresso machine to create this drink. I have found an inexpensive espresso grind coffee that is rich tasting and can be found almost anywhere. In my household, we brew Bustelo Coffee just like any other drip coffee. The flavor is more watered down than in an espresso shot but in this drink that does not matter. Simply fill the cup about halfway up with Bustelo Coffee and you are good to go. (BTW I have no direct relationship with this coffee company but I am a big fan!)
If you want to know how to make an apple crisp macchiato that tastes like fall apple pie then you definitely need the oat milk. The oat milk gives it that pie-crust flavor that regular milk just does not have. Sure you can substitute it for regular cow’s milk or almond milk but it is not the same. Trust me I have tried and I always end up disappointed.

How To Make An Apple Crisp Macchiato: Step By Step Instructions
Step 1. Create the Simple Syrup
Cut up and core 2 apples. Add the apples, sugar, molasses, cinnamon, and vanilla extract to the small sauce. Add a small amount of water to the pan to prevent the sugar from burning. Turn the heat up to medium heat until the mixture begins to boil. Then lower the heat to simmering. Continue to simmer for 30 minutes or more. Once the apples have simmered for at least 30 minutes and are mushy continue to the next step.
Step 2.
Mash the soft apples up with a potato masher or a meat chopper. This helps all of the apple juice and flavor get into the coffee syrup. When this step is complete add the juice of 1/2 a lemon. This will bring out the tart apple flavor. Then sprinkle with a little salt to help round out the flavor. Mix and strain into a cup or container.
Step 3. Make a hot macchiato
Brew your espresso coffee. I use a pour over drip coffee maker or a French press. and fill your cup up to 1/3 to 1/2 full with hot coffee. * May use 1 shot of espresso. Then add 2 tablespoons of apple crisp syrup to the mug. Then fill the rest of the mug with creamy oat milk.
Last but not least, enjoy the heavenly comforts and tastes of fall!
Iced Coffee Version:
- Alternately, add the apple brown sugar syrup and oat milk to cold brewed coffee and ice for an iced macchiato.
